5 Years in a Row. Peru is the Best Culinary Destination

This week, PROMPERU (Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Export and Tourism) announced that Peru, for the fifth consecutive year, has been awarded in a ceremony held in the Maldives by the World Travel Awards (WTA), as the Best Culinary Destination in the World 2016.

This recognition consolidates our rank as one of the world’s top gastronomic destinations in the world and showcases the passion Peruvians feel for their food and culinary heritage which has influences dating back from the Incas and the strong immigration from Europe, Africa, and Asia.

It should be noted that Peru has consistently edged out other world renowned cuisines such as French, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Spanish and Thai, among others.

On its 23rd year of celebrating The World Travel Awards, the organization has prized #1 to Peruvian cuisine the last 5, choosing Peru as the Best Culinary Destination and awarding our country dozens of food and tourism prizes including Top Culinary Destination in South America earlier this year.

Peruvian gastronomy has been in the eye of the world for the past decade, imposing itself on international food competitions where it has outranked countries like France, Japan, Mexico and Spain amongst others.
