A sneak peek into our first Peruvian cooking class

This week has been so busy and so exciting! I´ve been in Charlottesville, VA, to visit my son, Eduardo, and his wife, Antonella. But I also had other reasons to be there. One of them was the seminar Pathways to Entrepreneurship that we attended last week at the University of Virginia. I learned many things and had a great experience there. And last but not least, I had an invitation from The Frenchman´s Corner Store, to teach a Peruvian cooking class.

Even though I have been teaching cooking classes for many years, this time I felt a bit intimidated because it was going to be my first time teaching a full class in English, to an American audience. The owner of the store sent me an email trying to reinforce my confidence with these lovely words: “everyone loves a woman with an accent”. Will always keep it in mind.

The menu was as follows:

Conchitas a la Parmesana. Causa with Tuna.

Arroz con Pollo. Tres Leches.

And the food was paired with regional wines.

Antonella, my daughter-in-law, volunteered to be my sous-chef. She is an awesome cook and helped a lot. My son was there taking photos and some videos of the class. The audience was great, full of ladies that, for the most part, knew nothing about Peruvian cuisine, and kept asking questions about our influences, our dishes, our ingredients, and many other things. They were fantastic and together we had a great time!

They even invited us to teach another class and to have a book signing, when The Everything Peruvian Cookbook is released in February. Hope to see you there!
