Super Smoothie – Dad’s Fountain of Youth

The original recipe is in my Detox Juicing book. I wrote this book with my daughter, and she shared this recipe there. This healthy drink was custom made by her (a holistic health coach) for her now 82 year old father. He drinks this smoothie every morning as soon as he wakes up. For many years his breakfast consisted of a banana-and-milk smoothie (among other things, like toasts with butter and jam, or corn flakes). This was before she intervened -almost 10 years ago- and sent dairy into exile, replacing it with green juices, healthy fats, and fiber. Since he started drinking this on a daily basis he has lost close to 100 pounds and stopped taking most of his prescription drugs. Nothing short of a miraculous fountain of youth.

Sometimes I like to make changes to my recipe, using homemade flaxseeds and sesame seeds -or almond milk-  instead of the green juice. I love to make all kinds of vegetable milks at home, especially with my Kitchen Aid Artisan Magnetic Drive Blender that I absolutely love. After trying several blenders this is the only one that leaves almost no pulp after making the milks or the smoothies, and I also make beautiful and colorful smoothie bowls for breakfast with it. So yummy!

My daughter included several superfoods in this recipe. Use them all or choose the ones you prefer. I like to add maca flour because they say it’s very good for moodiness or depression. My doctor once mentioned this powerful root’s antidepressant qualities, but it wasn’t until we saw the impressive improvements in my daughter’s dad’s mood after a few weeks of taking it religiously that we realized these claims were indeed true.

If you don´t like maca feel free to add lucuma or carob flour to your smoothie. I also love to add spirulina or chlorella because of the protein -and I love the beautiful green color as well-. Instead of sacha inchi use coconut or olive oil. Use fruits in season. And make the best use of your amazing blender trying pistachio, walnut, pecan, coconut, Brazil nuts, rice or quinoa milk. Your smoothies will be the best in town.

  1. Genial, lo probaré

  2. Does this recipe call for one or two banana’s. It has banana listed twice and I wasn’t sure if this was in error. Thanks so much for the recipe. I can’t wait to try it!
