Our Favorite Christmas Desserts

In Peru we celebrate Christmas with a huge dinner on the night of the 24th. This is the time to exchange gifts with everyone, and the little ones stay up late waiting to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus, or Papá Noel. Before dinner, they have fun playing around and lighting up some sparklers, while the grown ups drink cocktails and chat away in the kitchen and living room. Peruvians love to eat large amounts of food and Christmas is the perfect excuse to do it. Along with the varied array of hors d’oeuvres, appetizers, entrées, and side dishes, we like to make more than one dessert for this special celebration, to be enjoyed with steaming mugs of hot chocolate (even though it’s summer for us!).

Here you have a small selection of some of the desserts you could find at a Peruvian celebration, to give you some inspiration for the holidays.
