Chocolate and Maca Mousse – 100% Tasty and Sugar-free!

Vegan chocolate mousseIn a perfect world, sugar would either be so good for us that it would be OK to eat massive amounts of it every day, or it would be so disgusting that we would never crave it. Can you imagine walking into the superfoods isle of the supermarket and finding sugar and all your favorite desserts there, advertised as the ultimate discoveries in health and longevity? That is definitely a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby.  If you are a total sweetness junky like I am, you know what I mean. Sugar free dessert

Unfortunately, reality is light years away from this fantasy, and sugar is probably the nastiest legal poison of our time, and as addictive as could be. What should a girl do when she NEEDS dessert? I’m not going to pretend I have the answer. I have tried everything in the last few years, from going cold turkey without sugar for up to a month, to trying to ration how many sweets I eat every week, to battling to stay away from them during weekdays with the promise of a weekend bingeMaca powder

My latest trend, however, -and probably the healthiest for my body, and especially for my mind- is to allow myself to eat dessert every day if I feel like it, but with one condition: that I make them at home, with wholesome ingredients.  And I don’t use the term wholesome lightly. I don’t mean using tablespoon after tablespoon of organic butter and brown vegan sugar. My desserts are 100% sugar-free, and in the most part, gluten-free and dairy-free too. The whole point is that they are actually good for me, like in my fantasy. Whoever said dreams can’t come true clearly never met my sweet tooth and it’s determination.Cacao Powder

My goal is to come up with a repertoire of these healthy and satisfying desserts, that is long enough to keep me from ever getting bored and having to resort to their naughty alternatives. I’ve already succeeded at making raw tejas, and raw alfajores, which totally do the trick for me. My latest hit, however, is this chocolate mousse packed with some of my favorite Peruvian superfoods: the super energizing, mood stabilizing, and hormone balancing maca, and the antioxidant-rich raw cacao powder. Consider this my Christmas present to you.
